I- ARBITRATION
Training and membership
Two routes are available to join ICArb; either by enrolling formation programs or by passing direct assessments. Participants benefit from free membership in the first route, as listed below.
ICArb offers formation programs in arbitration. Three levels are available online and in-person.
Institute of Mediation and Arbitration is cofounded by ICArb and CU, to offer one of a kind formation programs in alternative dispute resolution, that add application to theory. Read more.
Route I:
I- Intern Arbitrator Program: This is a local arbitration training program, that typically covers the basics of arbitration, focusing on procedural aspects, law, and techniques applicable within a specific jurisdiction. This program commonly involves introductory courses on understanding local arbitration laws and regulations. Participants also learn about drafting arbitration agreements, selecting arbitrators, conducting hearings, drafting the arbitral award and enforcing arbitration awards within the local legal system.
Duration: 48 hours during 4 months, one session a week – or during 2+ months, two sessions weekly – plus open discussion online.
Prerequisite: Bachelor degree
. Fees: 1,800$.
Upon completion, participants undergo two-year internship at ICArb with no additional costs, and are listed to act as co-arbitrators at ICArb for five years.
II- Arbitrator Program: This is an international commercial arbitration training program, that delves into the complexities of resolving cross-border disputes and mastering the rules of international arbitration institutions like the ICC, LCIA, and ICSID. Participants in these programs are introduced to the principles of private international law, the New York Convention, and UNCITRAL Model Law. They also gain practical skills in handling complex multi-jurisdictional disputes, drafting arbitral awards, and managing cultural and language differences in international arbitration proceedings.
Duration: 72 hours during 9 months, one session a week, or during 5 months, two sessions weekly- Plus open online discussions.
Prerequisite: Master degree.
Fees: 4,500$.
Upon completion, participants are listed as arbitrators at ICArb for eight years with no additional costs.
III- Advanced Professional Diploma: Advanced professional diploma programs for arbitrators are designed for seasoned professionals seeking to enhance their expertise and credentials in the field of arbitration. These programs offer in-depth training on specialized topics such as investment, construction, intellectual property and sports arbitration. Participants are often required to complete practical case studies, simulations, and mentorship programs under experienced arbitrators to refine their skills in legal reasoning, evidence presentation, and decision-making. Graduates of these programs are equipped to handle the most challenging and high-stakes arbitration cases with confidence and proficiency
Duration: 72 sessions during 9 months. Plus open online discussions.
Prerequisite: Master degree (5 years). Age: 25 y/o and above. Fees: 4,500$
Upon completion, participants are listed as arbitrators at ICArb for eight years with no additional costs.
Route II:
Practicing arbitrators who hold at least a master degree, and have participated in five and more arbitration cases, as presiding or co-arbitrator, at well known arbitration centers, and who don’t intend to take any of the above formation programs, can apply directly to be listed as ICArb panelists, as follow:
Submit panelist application form and required documents: Applicants are kindly asked to send an email including a detailed CV showing academic qualifications and relevant experience in arbitration, as well as summary of arbitral cases participated in.
Pay an application fee of 200$
Applications are revised by ICArb personnel and applicants are notified with results.
Admitted applicants attend a complimentary five-hour online course about ICArb arbitration rules.
ICArb panelist annual fee: 360$, paid each year in advance.
Panelists must attend at least 30% of free continuous webinars at ICArb, as long as they are listed.

II- MEDIATION
1. Intern Mediator Training Program
Duration: 3 months
Format: Online and/or in-person
Fees: $1,800
Weekly Structure:
- One Lecture per Week:
Each lecture focuses on foundational concepts of mediation, conflict resolution, and communication skills. Topics include: - Introduction to mediation and its principles.
- Types of conflicts and their dynamics.
- Active listening and effective communication techniques.
- Neutrality and impartiality in mediation.
- Basic negotiation strategies.
- Ethical considerations in mediation.
- Open Discussions Between Lectures:
Participants engage in continuous discussions to: - Reflect on lecture content.
- Share personal experiences or case studies.
- Practice mediation skills in role-playing scenarios.
- Receive feedback from peers and instructors.
Key Components:
- Assignments:
Short assignments to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. - Role-Playing Exercises:
Simulated mediation sessions to practice skills. - Final Assessment:
A practical assessment where participants demonstrate their understanding of mediation techniques.
Outcome:
- Basic understanding of mediation principles and techniques.
- Ability to assist in mediation sessions under supervision.
- Certificate: IC Intern Mediator.
2. Mediator Training Program
Duration: 6 months
Format: Online and/or in-person
Fees: $3,600
Weekly Structure:
- One Lecture per Week:
Advanced topics are covered to deepen understanding and skills. Topics include: - Advanced negotiation techniques.
- Handling high-conflict situations.
- Cross-cultural mediation.
- Legal and procedural aspects of mediation.
- Mediation in specific contexts (e.g., workplace, family, community).
- Building a mediation practice.
- Open Discussions Between Lectures:
Participants engage in deeper discussions to: - Analyze complex case studies.
- Explore challenges in mediation.
- Develop advanced problem-solving skills.
- Receive mentorship from experienced mediators.
Key Components:
- Assignments:
In-depth assignments requiring critical thinking and application of advanced techniques. - Role-Playing Exercises:
Complex simulations to practice handling difficult mediation scenarios. - Mentorship:
One-on-one or group mentorship sessions with experienced mediators. - Final Assessment:
A comprehensive assessment, including a written exam and a practical mediation session.
Outcome:
- Advanced mediation skills and techniques.
- Ability to conduct mediation sessions independently.
- Certificate: IC Mediator.
